PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information embedding apparatus and an information extraction apparatus for embedding watermark information to and extracting the information from a composite electronic document by suppressing dependence on a form of an attached slave document to the composite electronic document without revising contents of the slave document itself at all. PSOLUTION: In embedding the watermark information to the composite electronic document wherein one or more slave electronic documents (slave documents) are attached to a master electronic document (master document), the watermark information is entered and the watermark information is attached to a parameter (display area parameter) for defining a display area of the slave documents in the master document to embed the watermark information to the composite electronic document. Further, in extracting the embedded watermark information from the composite electronic document, the watermark information attached to the parameter for defining the display area of the slave documents in the master document is extracted and outputted.
