PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for relatively simply producing a metal ultramicroparticle organosol or a metal ultramicroparticle and to provide a metal ultramicroparticle organosol or a metal ultramicroparticle obtained thereby.;SOLUTION: The method for producing the metal ultramicroparticle organosol includes a step of adding a reducing agent to a solution prepared by dissolving a metal compound in an organic solvent solution of an alkylamine and/or a compound thereof to form ultramicroparticles with a mean particle diameter of e.g., 1 to 100 nm. The metal compound is exemplified by a cobalt or copper halide. It is desirable that the alkylamine and/or the compound thereof are ones having 8C or higher alkyl groups, that the organic solvent has a high boiling point, and that the reducing agent is highly reducible.
