PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a measuring instrument for quickly measuring the shape of a cylindrical object to be measured to find the maximum principal stress axis in a horizontal plane with high accuracy.;SOLUTION: This laser interference-type measuring instrument is equipped with a circumferentially rotatable sample holder 12 for supporting a cylindrical rock core 11 as a measuring specimen, a knife edge 13 movable in the radial direction of the rock core 11, a laser light source 15 for outputting laser light through a slit 14 formed between a side face of the rock core 11 and the knife edge 13, and a CCD 16 for measuring an interference fringe of the laser light passing through the slit 14. Therefore, the circumferential outer shape of the side face of the rock core 11 can be quickly found with high accuracy based on the measured interference fringe.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
