PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an animation image reproducing apparatus by which the load on a CPU can be minimized and animation images can be switched without exerting stresses to a user. PSOLUTION: The animation image reproducing apparatus comprises a display means which displays an image having an animation image display region for displaying at least the animation image, an animation image data storage means in which a plurality of the animation image data are stored, an animation image data reproduction processing means which reads the animation image data out of the animation image data storage means and subjects the data to a reproduction processing, an animation image switching means which instructs switching from the previous animation image displayed earlier to the succeeding animation image, and a control means which executes the switching from the previous animation image to the succeeding animation image in compliance with the instruction of the animation image switching instruction means. The control means lowers the lightness of the animation image display region where the previous animation image is stopped during the time the reproduction processing of the succeeding animation image by the animation image reproduction processing means ends (until the display of the reproduction image of the animation image data is actually started)until the black image is attained by spending a prescribed time.
