PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone preventing a battery pack from upside down insertion into a battery insertion part. PSOLUTION: A claw part 21 is provided at the end part of a battery pack 2 and a groove 22 is formed inside the claw part 21 and a groove 11 is provided at a position opposed to the claw part 21 when the battery pack 2 is installed in the battery insertion part 14 on the wall of the battery insertion part 14 in the portable telephone main body 1. A rib 12 is provided in the groove 11 of the battery insertion part 14 at a position corresponding to the groove 22 of the claw part 21 of the battery pack 2. The height of the claw part 21 of the battery pack 2 is established to be a height by which the battery pack 2 may not be insertion engaged with the battery insertion part 14 when the claw part 21 of the battery pack 2 contacts the rib 12 of the battery insertion part 14, in the case the battery pack 2 is inserted upside down into the battery insertion part 14.
