PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of preparing data for drawing a map whereby quantity of data to be stored on a recording medium or transferred via communication circuits, etc., can be reduced, and navigator which prepares data for writing a map according to the map writing data preparing method and displays a map picture on a display. ;SOLUTION: The navigator system sues route searching nodes stored on a CD-ROM for searching for a guide route, and inputs interpolating node data from a traffic information center through a communication circuit. Interpolating nodes U1-U3 exist between route searching nodes S1, S2 the node data include information showing link conditions besides position information of each interpolating node U1-U3.
