PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject protein, having epoxy hydrolytic activities and a specific amino acid sequence and useful for producing an optically active halohydrin or an optically active diol useful as a synthetic raw material for medicines or physiologically active substances from the halohydrin. ;SOLUTION: This protein is a halohydrin epoxidase, having epoxy hydrolytic activities and represented by an amino acid sequence of the formula. Recombinants transformed with plasmids, prepared from a chromosomal DNA of an Agrobacterium radiobacter DH094 strain (FERM P-15959), an Agrobacterium sp. DH079 strain, etc., as a gene donor microorganism and having a smaller DNA fragment are obtained. A transformant JM109/pDHD003 containing a plasmid pDHD003 having halohydrin epoxidase activities among the resultant plasmids is deposited as FERM P-15960.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
