A method of preventing scale formation in a wet exhaust gas processing apparatus is disclosed. The exhaust gas is brought into contact with the washing liquid containing water. The cleaning liquid contains at least one chelating agent that reacts with ions that cause scale formation to produce a water-soluble chelating compound.
