A method of optimizing a write strategy (WS) by performing a WS study in a recording information area which is similar to a user data recording point in a medium characteristic, and which can be implemented in an optical recording apparatus, includes determining a condition of a recording point of a user data area of a rewritable optical disk and at which user data is to be recorded, determining a part of a recording information area storing recording information about the user data to be a WS study area to perform a WS study based on the determined condition of the recording point, and obtaining an optimal WS by performing the WS study in the determined WS study area. Accordingly, it is possible to obtain an optimal WS with respect to the UDA that has been used several times.
