The rear derailleur on a bicycle is necessarily mounted in a position whichmakesit vulnerable to damage and misalignment during off road riding. Thisinventionboth protects the derailleur from impact and adds support by constraining thederailleur at a second point, additional to its own mounting point. Thisinventionplaces a protective member over the derailleur which is attached to thebicycleframe at a point which is independent of the derailleur mount. This protectivemember covers the part of the derailleur which protrudes the farthest from thebicycle. A pin which protrudes inward from the protective member constrainsthe rear derailleur at the head, or outer, end of its mounting bolt.
