Method and apparatus for through-hardening sections of steel plate finished formed components and formed component through-hardened in sections

Section by section through hardening of finished components in 0.5-3.0 mm thick steel sheets, e.g. in boron alloyed steel, involving mutual motion of a partial region of the section and an inductor induced by an electromagnetic field under a shielding gas, e.g. argon or nitrogen, heating to the hardening temperature, and chilling of the secion directly after heating so that a hardness structure is produced in the partial region over the component thickness. The component surface is free from scale and can thus be phosphated or dip coated immediately. Independent claims are included for: (1) a device for thru hardening of steel sheets as described above; (2) a component obtained as above.
