The method involves partially bringing a hot semi-finished product i.e. solid and rigid tool component, into a forming area provided between two forming units (2, 3) of an opened hot forming tool (1). The tool is closed, and the product is deformed to a component (5) in the area between forming surfaces (20, 30) of the units. The tool is opened in sections such that a gap (6) is formed between the surfaces. Cooling agent e.g. ice water, is fed into the gap. The tool is again closed after cooling with the agent, and the component is calibrated between the units. An independent claim is also included for a hot forming tool for executing a method for hot forming a partially hot semi-finished product.
