In a process to determine the speed profile of a dilute particle suspension in a micro-passage, the passage is photographed through a fluorescence microscope. A streak image of a fluorescent latex particle is selected from raw image data. Two of the three colours are removed by filtration. A differential intensity streak profile is prepared from the residual green to provide front and side three-dimensional profiles. A final differential intensity profile is prepared without local noises. Also claimed is a micro-chip to determine the speed profile. further claimed is a process to manufacture a suitable microchip.
