PURPOSE: Provided is a composition comprising the extract of Phellinuslinteus or compounds isolated therefrom which have tyrosinase inhibitory activity. Therefore, the composition is used for whitening the skin and preventing food browning. CONSTITUTION: The skin whitening composition is characterized by containing the nonpolar solvent soluble extract of Phellinuslinteus obtained by using methylene dichloride, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The composition is formulated into emulsion, lotion, cream, essence, nourishing cream and mask pack. The extract and compounds derived therefrom are also used for preventing food browning.
