The novel feature in a twin wire former (1) for a machine producing fiber (especially paper or cardboard) webs from a fiber suspension (3) is that an open dewatering element (15) is arranged in the end region of a pre-dewatering element (9) with both screens (4,5) running together in this region and forming a twin wire zone (6) with the suspension (3) lying between them. A twin wire former (1) for a machine producing fiber (especially paper or cardboard) webs from a fiber suspension (3) has two endless screens (4,5) forming a twin wire zone (6) between which suspension (3) runs over a guide element (7) and a couch roll (8), the twin wire zone (6) forming a pre-dewatering zone (9) in which are arranged the headbox (10) carrying the suspension (3) onto carrier screen (4) and a dewatering element (11), the novel feature being that an open dewatering element (15) is arranged in the end region of pre-dewatering element (9) with both screens (4,5) running together in this region and forming the twin wire zone (6) with the suspension (3) lying between them. An independent claim is also included for a process for rebuilding of a twin wire former in such a machine involving again using the above elements.
