The brake system (10) for a vehicle has a brake pressure producer (12) with a master brake cylinder (14), and a number of brake units (28,30,32,34) and a brake fluid circuit (22), with a brake unit allocated to each wheel. A control valve (78) is provided in the brake fluid circuit by which the master brake cylinder of the brake pressure producer can be fluidically disengaged from the rest of the brake fluid circuit. An independent claim is included for a method for the controlling of a brake system for a vehicle whereby with the sensing of a pressure drop indicating a leak in the brake fluid circuit during the braking process the control valve is switched to a blocking position in which the master cylinder is fluidically disengaged from the rest of the brake fluid circuit.
