The flat-base tappet (1) has a valve-clearance compensation element (8) arranged in the tappet interior (5) between pressure plate (7), for charge of valve stem, and tappet base (3), for charge of camshaft. The tappet base is essentially flat on its inner side (17) facing the tappet interior. An idle-stroke compensation element (16), arranged in the tappet interior, is movable in the direction of the tappet base.
