The method is for the folding of a back seat (18) in a motor vehicle by means of a control device (10) and position sensors (16,24). A folding of the seat back (26) is coordinated via the control device with a movement of front seat positioned in front of it in its constructional position. The control device can be activated only when the vehicle is at rest. By the initiating of the folding of the seat back of the back seat the headrest (28) on the back seat is automatically retracted. An independent claim is included for a control system for the folding of a back seat in which a control device is connected to a drive (14) for displacement of the front seat, and to at least one position sensor for the front seat position, and connected to a device (20) for the folding of the back seat.
