The method involves holding actuators in the form of pneumatic springs (8a-8d) at each wheel (2a-2d) of a motor vehicle to actively change a distance between the wheels and a vehicle body. Lifting of the body in the area of the wheels is detected by vehicle-jack detection. A distance between the wheels, which lie diagonally opposite to the wheels to be lifted, and the body is actively reduced by the actuators, during the jack detection.
