The safety platform (1) comprises a scissor lift frame driven by gas springs (8) of which at least one is mounted in the upper area of the scissor lift (7). The springs can be gas compression springs. To assist the lifting action in the lower level at least one lift spring (21) can be mounted in the lower scissor lift (5). The ratio of extended length to retracted length is preferably greater than 7.
