The fastener has a pair of guide sleeves (1, 2) for height adjustable retaining of two head rest rods (7a 7b), respectively. The guide sleeve (1) is accommodated in one retaining device, and lies in two axially spaced bearing points. The guide sleeve (2) is adjustable in transverse direction within the space of another retaining device. The guide sleeve (2) is pivotably accommodated in the latter retaining device and the rod (7b) is pivotably accommodated in the guide sleeve (2).
