The method for exhaust gas recirculation for an internal combustion engine with a turbocharger entails connecting each of two separate flow sections (14,15) to a respective exhaust pipes (20,21) and carrying out a control of the exhaust gases to the turbine (3) by means of a variable turbine geometry (50,60). For exhaust recirculation, an exhaust gas recirculation pipe (35) leads from the exhaust pipe (20) associated with the smaller flow section (14) to the induction tract (6) of the engine via a control element (32). The variable turbine geometry can also be used as an engine brake.
