The sensor has an evaluating and controlling circuit (13) connected with condenser electrodes (11) that are arranged at a margin of a danger area. Capacity of the electrodes is determined by the circuit (11), and defined by an environment medium or an object in proximity of the electrodes. A control signal is produced for controlling a machine movement by the circuit (13) depending on the determined capacity values.
