The heating device (2) for a seat cover (1) of a motor vehicle has a resistance heater for the heating of the seat and backrest surfaces and a cable for connecting of the resistance heater to the electrical supply system of the vehicle. A heating layer or insert (21) is used as the resistance heater and extends over the seat surface and backrest and is installed on the inner side of the seat cover. The heating layer or insert consists of a fabric of high-resistance carbon fibers.
