The device has a tightening yoke (3) to tighten a cylindrical outer tube (2) connected to a steering column. A steering wheel is mounted on an inner tube (1) that slides inside the outer tube when a lever is actuated. Two springs (4, 5) are implanted perpendicular to a longitudinal slot of the yoke. The spring (5) situated closer to the wheel has greater radius than that of the spring (4) situated at a distance from the wheel. The lever has a cam and is mounted in rotation at the proximity of the slot for assuring penetration of the cam in the slot at the time of rotation of the lever by the user, and for assuring loosening of the tubes.
