The mechanism has a parking lock gear (8) integrated in rotation with a drive shaft (4). A clamping lever (9) includes a locking pin received between teeth of the parking lock gear. A release spring (11) applies constant force on the clamping lever to force back the lever to a released angular position. The lever includes a balance weight (27) for soliciting the lever towards the angular position. An independent claim is also included for an automatic transmission including a locking mechanism.
