The method involves obtaining a representation of a requested digital object in a communication network, and verifying if it corresponds to a preset progressive format. A transcoded form of the object having the object`s high resolution and quality is obtained in the network, if verification is negative. The object conforming to preferences specified in request is extracted from the form and sent with a client format to a client device. The request for the delivery of the digital object is received, from the client device, according to the client format and preferences relative to resolution and/or digital quality of the object. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) server device for the transfer of digital data with a client device over a communication network (B) information medium readable by a computing system including instructions of a computing program permitting to implement a digital data transferring method (C) computer program stored on an information medium including instructions permitting to implement a digital data transferring method.
