PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an accurate position, direction and speed of an automobile without using a GPS receiver after travelling in self-contained navigation for a long period.;SOLUTION: A car navigation system comprises: estimating a coordinate of the automobile on the basis of the self-contained navigation by using the speed and the angular speed of the automobile; detecting whether the automobile reaches a first position and a second position on a road; recording the coordinate of the automobile estimated on the basis of the self-contained navigation at prescribed timing while the automobile moves from the first position to the second position; and calculating an error correction efficiency correcting the error of the speed and the angular speed used for the self-contained navigation on the basis of the recorded coordinate and the coordinate of the road stored previously.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
