PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new metal-containing fullerene derivative having various characteristics such as magnetic, electric, optical and electrochemical characteristics, and capable of constructing a new structure by allowing the molecules to be oriented and laminated; to provide a composition containing the metal-containing fullerene derivative, and a structure obtained by organizing the metal-containing fullerene derivative; and further to provide a liquid crystal display material, a quantum device material and a molecular switch material using the metal-containing fullerene derivative.;SOLUTION: The metal-containing fullerene derivative has a shuttlecock-like molecular shape, and contains a metal atom. The metal-containing fullerene derivative is constituted of a carbon cluster site comprising a higher fullerene exemplified by C60 Buckminsterfullerene (fullerene C60) composed of 60 carbon atoms, a group to be substituted in the carbon cluster site, and the metal atom which may have a ligand, and the metal atom is a group 8 transition metal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
