PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substance inhibiting binding of M protein of SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) coronavirus to N protein and inhibiting the formation of virus particles and to provide a method for screening the substance. PSOLUTION: The method for screening the substance inhibiting the binding of the M protein of the SARS coronavirus to the N protein is carried out as follows. A candidate substance inhibiting the binding of the N protein or the M protein or a partial peptide thereof which can be bound to a protein or a peptide changed into a solid phase to the M protein or the N protein is added to a peptide having a specific amino acid sequence and the M protein or the N protein or the partial peptide thereof changed into the solid phase on a substrate. Thereby, the substance inhibiting the binding of the N protein or the M protein or the partial peptide thereof that can be bound to the protein or the peptide changed into the solid phase is selected as the substance inhibiting the binding of the M protein to the N protein.
