PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorine-substituted iridium complex having high luminous efficiency and excellent durability and a method for the production of the complex.;SOLUTION: The fluorine-substituted iridium complex is expressed by formula (1) and consists of a complex of iridium and a fluorine-substituted 2- phenylpyridine having two or more fluorine atoms substituted on the phenylpyridine ring at the positions excluding the 1, 6, 7 and 12 positions counted from the nitrogen atom. The integers (m) and (n) in the formula satisfy the formulas 2≤m+n≤8, 0≤m≤4 and 0≤n≤4. The fluorine-substituted iridium complex can be produced by reacting iridium(III)acetylacetonate with a fluorine- substituted 2-phenylpyridine having two or more fluorine atoms substituted on the phenylpyridine ring at the positions excluding the 1, 6, 7 and 12 positions counted from the nitrogen atom to form a complex.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
