PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of a controller such as set top box (STB) etc. connected to the IEEE 1394 serial bus for deleting program files without needing a process for searching a hard disc storing program files to be deleted, or a process for selecting the program files to be deleted one by one. PSOLUTION: When a user selects a drama in a genre (S1), a microprocessor at the STB side retrieves a program file having the same theme as the selected theme from all AVHDD connected to the STB (S3) and, if program files having the same theme are found (YES in S4), makes a list of the program files. A microprocessor 11 at the STB 1 side retrieves program files to be deleted from each AVHDD (S8), deletes these program files (S9), and ends the process if no program file to be deleted is found (YES in S10).
