PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC electric field type electric dust collector which shows high performance while keeping an absolute minimum dV/dt value (a rising/falling gradient of a rectangular wave) and by which a power supply unit, a cable and the like can be simplified and a method for driving this collector. PSOLUTION: It is necessary in this rectangular wave type electric dust collector that the dV/dt of a rectangular-wave high-voltage waveform is 50 V/millisecond. When the dV/dt is about 400 V/millisecond, the dust collecting rate equal to or higher than that when a direct current is applied can be obtained. If the dV/dt of the rectangular-wave high-voltage waveform is 50-2,000 V/millisecond, a satisfactorily high dust collecting rate can be obtained. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
