PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of cutting a carbon nanotube containing metal particles or no metal particles, the carbon nanotube, a field emitter, a catalyst support and a mixed material of the carbon nanotube. PSOLUTION: The short carbon nanotube having widened surface area, the method of cutting the carbon nanotube by which the structure change or the surface improvement of the carbon nanotube is facilitated to wholly facilitate the dispersion of the carbon nanotubes and an active component is enabled to insert into the inner wall of the carbon nanotube to increase the insertion efficiency, the carbon nanotube, the field emitter, the catalyst support and the mixed material of the carbon nanotube are provided.
