PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a software installation control method, program, and recording medium, in which a user is not confused even when the recording medium is used in respective situations for different purposes of use.;SOLUTION: In upgrading prescribed software already installed, adding or deleting functions of software already installed, or connecting a plug-and-play device represented by a USB device to a personal computer, a CD-ROM in compliance with an auto-run function is installed into a CD-ROM drive attached to the personal computer. An installation program for installing software contained in the CD-ROM is automatically started by the auto-run function, when different processes are executed in accordance with purposes of using the CD-ROM.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
