PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate a gas type even if the gas concentration of a gas to be detected changes during measurement. ;SOLUTION: A semiconductor-type gas detection element is retained at a specific temperature, and the correlation between at least two independent quantities of change such as a temperature change ΔVT of a gas detection part and a resistance change ΔVR of a semiconductor out of the temperature of the semiconductor-type gas detection part being obtained when the element touches gas, the resistance of the semiconductor, capacitance, inductance, and a function with those as arguments is obtained in advance separately for a plurality of gas types. When relationship obtained from multiple-point information within constant measurement time of at least two independent quantities of change that change corresponding to the concentration change in the gas to be detected being obtained when the gas to be detected is brought into contact with the above gas detection element being retained at a specific temperature satisfies either of the above correlation relationships, it is discriminated that the gas to be detected is a gas type for achieving the above correlation relationship.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
