The present invention is intended to isolate genes specifically expressed in mesangial cells. The present invention provides a DNA specifically expressed in a mesangial cell, a protein encoding the DNA, an antibody that binds to the protein, etc. These are unique to mesangial cells, and are useful for identification of mesangial cells and detection of abnormality of mesangial cells. In addition, the function of the protein clarifies the function of the mesangial cell, and the development of the cause of the disease related to the mesangial cell is expected. And, the application to the treatment and diagnosis of the disease related to the mesangial cell is expected.
