PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently execute detecting and correcting processings by presuming the shape of a circumscribed rectangle which expresses the rotation and shearing deformation of a character from the stroke angles of the character in vertical and horizontal directions and attain detection from the inflection point part of a projection function based on relation between the respective angles with a projection and the number of integration pixels. ;SOLUTION: The shape of the circumscribed rectangle is guessed by the angles of the character in vertical and horizontal strokes. In this case, when the projection direction coincides with the vertical stroke direction of the character, the projection becomes sharp. When the projection direction comes out of the vertical stroke direction, the projection becomes the flat one and a sharpness is reduced. When the projection is used, the width of the projection in a state where the character is erect without the rotation and shearing deformation is narrowed so that a rotary angle is presumed by the change of the width of the projection. Then, a detecting algorithm by the entropy of the projection by which the sharpness of the picture is uniquely evaluated is utilized as the projection function based on relation between the respective angles with the projection and the integrated values of the pixels.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
