The artificial grass structure (1) is formed by an artificial grass mat (5), under which is a drainage mat (7) for dispersal of rain water. The drainage mat is formed by a layer of plastic foam, which on the side turned away from the artificial grass mat is provided with a grid of grooves (11) squarely positioned on each other. At the crossing points of the grooves, through holes (13) in the layer are provided. Between the artificial grass mat and the drainage mat is a textile layer (15), preferably a root sheet, and between the drainage mat and the roof cover (3) is a watertight sheet.
