Map data updating method involves converting location information into same format as a map data, which is stored in a user memory device. The map data is determined whether the map data has changed using location information received from a broadcasting network, Internet, and a transmission medium. The stored map data is updated based on the received location information, if the map data has changed. Independent claims are also included for: (A) An apparatus for updating map data, comprising a decoder for decoding location information; and (B) A computer-readable storage medium with a computer program for executing a method of updating map data.
