The invention relates to a device for controlling the braking of a roll for cutting purposes in an automatic-cutting dispenser for wiping materials. The inventive device comprises means (17, 18, 20) which interact directly between the drum (4), which includes the material-cutting device (5), and the roll of material (B) by means of the winding support mandrel (25) thereof. The invention also comprises a transmission means (18) which co-operates with means (17) associated with the drum during the rotation thereof and which co-operates with the roll-holder and the roll itself in order to apply a brake to the roll following cutting, such that the last attachment zone of the sheet can be detached and the gripped sheet of material can be separated from the roll. The inventive device performs two functions, namely preventing the sheet from curling and separating the last attachment zone of the sheet.
