Device for administration of viscoelastic fluids for intraocular surgery

The syringe (6), having a barrel (8), a plunger (9) and a needle (10), has part of the barrel pre-filled with a viscoelastic fluid (11), e.g. 1 per cent sodium hyaluronate. Another part of the barrel is filled with a second viscoelastic fluid (12), e.g. hyaluronan or polyacrylamide, with a molecular weight higher or lower than the first, designed to be injected through the same needle following injection of the first fluid. In addition, the syringe barrel has a visual mark (14) corresponding to the bottom position of the plunger once all the first fluid has been injected. A variant of the design has the barrel filled with three different fluids.
