The invention relates to a special extract for use in cases of cardiac irregularities, and to the preparation thereof. The special extract has an antiarrhythmic effect. Depending on its composition, it either preferably slows down the ventricular stimulus conduction when administered or exerts an effect especially on the action potential duration and the dispersion of the potential duration, or improves coronary perfusion. No acute proarrhythmic effect is observed. The object of the present invention is to specify a method by which a cardioactive special extract can be prepared from Leonurus cardiaca. This special extract is intended to be used for the production of medicaments used to treat cardiac irregularities and to improve coronary perfusion. The core of the invention is to use the above-ground parts of the plant Leonurus cardiaca and to obtain the special extract from them by means of stepwise extraction, starting with aqueous extractions and thereafter using more strongly apolar solvents.
