The invention relates to a special extract for use in cardiac arrhythmias and its production. The special extract shows an antiarrhythmic effect. Depending on the composition, when administered, it preferably either slows the time of arousal or, above all, effects on the action potential duration and the dispersion of the potential duration or an improvement in coronary perfusion. No acute proarrhythmic effect is observed. The present invention is based on the object of demonstrating a method by means of which a heart-active special extract from Leonurus cardiaca can be produced. This is to be used to manufacture medicines for cardiac arrhythmias and to improve coronary perfusion. The essence of the invention is that from the above-ground parts of the plant of the Leonurus cardiaca plant, the special extract is obtained by means of a gradual extraction, starting from hydrophilic, with aqueous extractions and subsequently using more non-polar solvents.
