The carding machine has at least one rotary cylinder (5) with a flange (F) on each end, and a fixed casing (11) covering part of its curved outer surface, forming a sealed chamber (E) that can be fed with air to create an internal pressure that prevents fibres entering it. The seal between the flange and curved casing is formed by a joint (10) set in a peripheral groove in the flange, and the air feed is delivered by a fan through an external duct (13) connected to the flange and attached to the carding machine's fixed frame.
