To obtain a software-engineered reproduction of the behaviour of an actual domestic appliance (HG) in a model (SWM), which is connected to the relevant domestic appliance (HG) via a bi-directional connecting device, the latter being used to transmit the current condition of the relevant domestic appliance (HG) to the model (SWM) and to execute actions in the domestic appliance (HG), the appliance parameters that indicate the appliance behaviour are merely declaratively described. The model (SWM) consists of a software component (CB) on the side of the gateway (GW) and a software component (DM, DC) on the side of the domestic appliance (HG), in addition to a specification data component (SG, Dl, CG) between the two software components (CB; DM, DC).
