SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SUBTRACTING DARK NOISE FROM AN IMAGE USING AN ESTIMATED DARK NOISE SCALE FACTOR

An image processing system, an image sensor and a dark noise subtracting method are provided to subtract dark noise from an image without using dark pixels. An image processing system(10) includes an image sensor(20), a memory(70) and a processor(60). The image sensor captures a current image and generates current image data representing the current image. The current image data includes a current dark noise signal and an image signal. The memory stores reference image data representing a reference dark noise signal generated by the image sensor. The processor estimates a dark scale factor from the current image data and the reference image data and scales the reference dark noise signal by the dark noise scale factor to generate a scaled dark noise signal. The processor subtracts the scaled dark noise signal from the current image data to generate an image signal.
