System and method for subtracting dark noise of an image with the use of an estimated dark noise scaling factor

An image processing system dark noise subtracted from images, based on a dark noise scaling factor. The image processing system comprises an image sensor for receiving a current image and generating current image data which represent the current image. The current image data comprise both a dark noise signal as well as a picture signal. The dark noise scaling factor for the current image is from the current image data and reference image data is estimated, the dark noise represent a reference signal. The reference signal is dark noise by the dark noise scaling factor is scaled, a scaled dark noise signal, of which the current image data are subtracted, in order to generate the image signal.
