Provided are a sealed-type battery, which has large fracture strength of a welding part formed by welding a sealing plate fitted into an opening of an outer can of a battery with high energy rays such as a laser light, and a manufacturing method thereof. The method for manufacturing a sealed-type battery comprises: (1) inserting a sealing plate into an opening of an outer can(15) such that the outer can(15) is approximately on the same level with the top of a flange part(23) of the sealing plate(16), by using the outer can(15) having an opening and the sealing plate(16) having a groove(22) formed around a fitting side with the outer can(15) or on a part thereof; and beaming high energy rays on the fitting part between the outer can(15) and sealing plate(16) to weld the fitting part.
