THE COMPOSITION TO SECREAT GROWTH HORMONE CONTAINING ZIZYPHUS JUJUBA MILL EXTRACT OR BETULINIC ACID

A composition comprising an extract of Zizyphus jujuba Mill or a betulinic acid is provided to act on pituitary cell so as to promote secretion of growth hormone and increase the secretion amount of the growth hormone in vitro and in vivo, thereby being usefully used for preventing and treating growth diseases such as dwarf, dwarfism, poor progress of growth and lowering of growth. A pharmaceutical composition for promoting secretion of growth hormone comprises a betulinic acid represented by the formula(1), a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or an extract of Zizyphus jujuba Mill containing the betulinic acid. The method for preparing the betulinic acid from Zizyphus jujuba Mill comprises the steps of: (a) after crushing the Zizyphus jujuba Mill, removing a normal hexane extract therefrom; (b) extracting the residue obtained from the step(a) with methanol; (c) adding normal hexane to the methanol extract obtained from the step(b) and then shaking it; (d) performing chromatography on the hexane fraction obtained from the step(c); and (e) repeating recrystallization on the fraction obtained from the step(d) using methanol.
